A CAR enthusiast has slammed police for labelling him and his friends as a 'bad examples of society' after an incident where they were given notices at the Daglingworth double roundabouts.

20 cars, driven by men aged 17 to 28, were caught by police at the double roundabouts by the A417 during the late hours of Wednesday, August 2.

According to police, residents in areas including Daglingworth and Perrott’s Brook were kept awake by the group's 'anti-social' behaviour

They also said they were concerned about the safety of the young drivers, who were driving in circuits at the double roundabouts and performing techniques such as wheelspins, drifting and handbrake turns.

But one of the drivers, a 26-year-old from Gloucester, said they did not behave in an 'anti-social' way, nor did they perform any car stunts.

When police arrived, he said, he and his friends were parked up in a layby, "not playing music, having a chat and having a cigarette".

He said he was told by police that they had received reports of tyre screeching and loud music in the area.

He continued: "The police are so quick to label us as bad examples of society.

"How is it intimidating? We don’t have crow bars to smash cars up.

"There's worse things a group of 18 to 28-year-olds could do. We've got a passion, which is our cars.

"It was a meeting with a group of friends, we live in different parts of the country."

The 26-year-old said that police misunderstandings about car clubs was a wider problem: "I’ve got zero respect for police. They label every car society.

"I’ve been in many car clubs and meetings across the UK, and the amount of police officers who understand what we do, I can probably count on one hand."
