PUPILS at a Cirencester primary school were delighted to be given the opportunity to put what they’ve been learning about gardening into action.

The children, from Chesterton Primary School, headed down to nearby Thistle Park earlier this month to do some community planting.

Adrienne Robertson, outdoor learning intervention lead at the school, accompanied the children on their educational trip.

Maggi Brown, former head of education at Garden Organic, a leading centre for organic horticulture in the UK, was also on hand to help with the planting.

“The children were excited to be making connections with the local community through gardening,” said Adrienne.

“They have been learning about planting and growing at school and have successfully grown lettuce, sunflowers and runner beans from seed.”

She went on to say that the school is “passionate about our relationship with nature with lots of activities engaging the children in outdoor learning”.

In 2018, the school is set to launch its own Pollination Project – “creating pollinating areas in our school connecting with pollinating spaces across the country”, added Adrienne.
