  • SCARECROW Trail is on Saturday, July 8. The Friends of Kempsofrd Primary School would like to invite all organisations and residents in Kempsford and Dunfield to make scarecrows and place them in prominent positions in gardens around the village to coincide with this year’s summer fete. If you live outside the village and wish to make a scarecrow please contact the organisers (address at the end of this information) and they will find a place to display it. There will be a prize for the best scarecrow. Please label your scarecrow if it is made by a child or children. There is no charge for entering a scarecrow. This year’s theme is characters from films, books or theatre. To enter a scarecrow, please call Charlie KcKenna on 07885759879 or email: friendsof kempsfordschool@hotmail.com with the following information:1)Details of the character you have chosen. 2)A clue - either simple or cryptic to help people guess the scarecrow’s identity. 3)Your name, address and phone number so you can be contacted if you have won and also to make a map of all the scarecrows around the village. The closing date for entry is Friday, June 30.
  • REPRESENTATIVES from Gloucestershire County Council, Persimmon Homes and T.W. Landscapes have advised the school that the field opposite the school will not be ready for full use until early spring 2018. This is very disappointing, whilst the field may appear to look fine, the grass is not yet ready for use. As a result of this, the School Sports Day will be held tomorrow morning at Kempsford Manor, by kind permission of Mrs Williamson.
  • 1ST KEMPSFORD Rainbows will be holding a cake sale on Monday, June 26 from 3.15pm in the school hall. Please come along and help them raise much-needed funds for Rainbows.
  • CRICKET Club fixture for this Saturday, June 24 is a home match starting at 1.30pm against the Fleet Street Strollers.
  • QUIZ Night at Whelford Social Club on Saturday, July 1 with an 8.30pm start.
  • HOLY Communion this Sunday, June 25 at 10am at Kempsford Church led by Revd Lynn Hayler.

  • RESIDENT passes to use in your vehicles during the Royal International Air Tattoo are available from Fairford Town Council. These passes do not allow access into the showground, but assist the police and traffic officers in identifying you as a local resident. Two passes  per household for Fairford residents only.

  • FRIENDS of Farmor’s School Quiz Night on Friday, June 23 from 7-10pm in Farmor’s School, The Park, Fairford. Cost £5pp, with teams of six maximum. Tickets from parentpay.com or pay on the door. 
  • ON SUNDAY, June 25, Friends of Farmor’s School will hold a car boot sale on Farmor’s School Playing Field, Leafield Road entrance. 10am until 1pm for buyers. Gates open at 9am for sellers. £7 per car; £10 per van (pay on the day). Refreshments. 
  • TONIGHT (Thursday) there will be an EGM of The League of Friends of Fairford Hospital starting at 7pm in Fairford Community Centre. Members invited to vote on changing the legal status of the charity to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and to vote on changing the charity’s name to ‘Friends of Fairford and Lechlade Communities.’ Registered members will receive an invitation together with information outlining the reasons for the proposed changes.
  • ON THURSDAY, June 29, the Hilary Cottage Surgery Patient Participation Group is hosting a ‘Dementia Awareness and Support Event’ at 2pm in Fairford Community Centre. Free entry. Reserve a place by emailing hilarycottageppg@gmail.com. 
  • A STREET collection in aid of Christian Aid was held in Fairford on May 17 and 20. The total collected was £481.96.

  • THERE will be a summer garden party in aid of the Memorial Hall funds on Sunday, July 9 from 2-5pm at Ryton House by kind permission of John and Barbara McNaught. Attractions include the Highworth Silver Band, a tombola plant stall and a treasure hunt. Tickets are just £7 from the Post office to include tea and cake provided by the Lechlade WI. Children under 14 have free entry.
  • AN INTREPID or very hot group of 10 kayakers left Lechlade last Saturday, June 17 and planned to arrive at Tower Bridge five days later on June 21. If paddling 150 miles wasn’t gruelling enough, there are 45 locks to contend with en-route with the tidal section starting at Teddington Lock. This is all in aid of the British Heart Foundation in memory of a little hero called Finn. The target is to raise £10,000 to fund research into heart disease.   • PEOPLE for You is a volunteer run befriending service for older people in Tetbury, Lechlade, Fairford and surrounding area.
