A CYCLIST who was riding through Bibury was reportedly attacked by a driver this afternoon.

The 32-year-old cyclist, who did not want to be named, travelled from London to Bisley to see his family for two days.

Today, he decided to go cycling but ended up in Cirencester Hospital with stitches after a car driver pulled over and allegedly punched him in the face.

The incident happened at about 2.15pm today on the B4425 just outside the village.

According to the cyclist, the car driver alleged that he had spat at him while passing by on his bike.

He suffered a big cut on his lip that had to be stitched together.

The 32-year-old said: "I was enjoying cycling through Bibury, we were just leaving the village on the road to Cirencester when the guy behind me pulled over, comes out of the vehicle.

"He said I spat at him and overreacted. Now I'm in hospital with stitches.

"Just by chance, there were two police officers behind and they stopped him.

"I'm not feeling great. I'm in a lot of pain."
