A RETIRED teacher from Cirencester is donning his walking boots to trek from Cardiff ’s University Hospital to Bristol Children’s Hospital next month to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

John Plant, 78, will be part of a relay team stretching across England and Wales who are linking up various TCT units throughout the two countries.

John said: “Every year there’s a group of us trekkers who raise a lot of money for the TCT.

“If we raise enough then we go on a big trek but some of us this year decided to join up the TCT units in a relay and I will be walking from Cardiff to Bristol.

“Someone will come from Birmingham and will give me a baton and I will carry it to Bristol and pass it on to a lady called Liz Atkins.

“She will go on to Bath and hand it on to someone else who will cycle to Southampton.

“It’s the brainchild of Liz, she and I walked the whole Welsh Coastal Path three years ago which was 757 miles in seven weeks. I’ve always got my boots on, I like to walk everywhere, when I lived in Down Ampney I often made the two hour walk into town.

“We hope to raise lots of money to build more units for young people struggling with cancer.”

John’s trek will begin on June 7 and he hopes to complete the 60 mile trip in four days, finishing on June 10. To donate to John’s cause go to justgiving.com/teams/top- 2toe4teens
