TETBURY in Bloom is hoping to bag a cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco's community funding scheme, launched in partnership with Groundwork, sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region are shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Tetbury in Bloom, which focuses on decorating the town with plants and flowers, is one of the groups on the shortlist.

Sue Hirst, team leader of Tetbury in Bloom said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for the work we do throughout Tetbury.

"As a small group of volunteers, our sole aim is to make the town an attractive place to live, work and visit and it’s great that people can support what we do by voting for us in the Bags of Help scheme."

Voting is open in stores throughout May and June. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at check-out.

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects.
