THE Roundabout Man in Cirencester, Tony Curry, is standing to represent the Conservatives at the Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) Election on May 4.
Tony, a long-time resident of Cirencester, is well known for his efforts in mowing the grass on the main roundabouts by Tetbury Road in the town.
He hopes to be elected as councillor for the Cirencester Park ward at GCC and will be running against Joe Harris (Liberal Democrat), Bob Irving (Green Party), Terry Pomroy (Labour) and Robert Stephens (UKIP).
His priorities are to:
- Create a group with Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown to oversee the development of the infrastructure in and around Cirencester, focusing on car parking, roads, water and sewerage and health and education services
- Make sure that Cirencester is given a fair share of the £150million investment pledged by Gloucestershire County Council for roads
- Support the charities that are helping the homeless and underprivileged people in Cirencester
He emphasised the need to keep pressure on the government and on Highways England to deliver the promised £255 million A417 link road improvement scheme.
Tony has identified roads in Cirencester that are in need of immediate repair and will ensure that they are repaired within the year if he is elected.
Having been an NHS patient over many years at various hospitals around the country and in Gloucestershire, Tony would also like to see financially viable services continue to be offered at Cirencester Hospital.
He said: “You can change the political colour in Cirencester. Elect me as your county councillor on May 4 and you will!”
Tony was previously elected as a Conservative councillor for Cotswold District Council and the town council, has been Chairman of the Park Community Group for several years and is involved in the Cirencester Running Club.
