A MOTHER says her teenage son is being ignored by bus drivers who regularly fail to pick him up on the morning school run.

Louise Millard has voiced her concerns over Cirencester Deer Park pupil Ethan, 13, saying drivers continue past the Lechlade bus stop without picking her son up.

She recently moved to Lechlade from Chedworth with husband Nicholas and has raised the issue with Stagecoach numerous times.

“Although we love living in Lechlade we are having terrible problems with bus drivers driving past Ethan whilst he is waiting at the bus stop,” said Louise.

“This has happened several times since January and despite numerous emails to find out how and why, it still keeps happening.”

Ethan leaves the house at 6.45am to get the 77 bus at 7am from the Moorgate bus stop.

When it does stop, he arrives into Cirencester at 7.45am and walks up to Deer Park and gets there by 8.15am, though if he misses it, he arrives at 11am.

Louise said: “Ethan loves his school and doesn’t want to have to move but we are now going to have to consider it after the bus driver again failed to collect him. That’s the second time this week.”

She said the route has recently been changed to include the Moorgate stop and there is currently no sign indicating it is a stop.

“Drivers come round the corner way too fast and fail to see you in time,” she said.

“Even if they catch you out of the corner of their eye they fail to stop further down the road, and just keep going.

“It’s the last stop out of Lechlade so if they miss you that’s it, until the next bus and goodness knows if they will remember to stop again.”

Louise said Stagecoach promised to alert drivers, but so far “have failed to do so”.

She added: “Ethan is vulnerable due to mild learning difficulties and is very small in stature. To have the driver go straight past is stressful for him and us.”

Louise said she can’t drive him to school herself as the family can’t afford to run two cars, while Nicholas commutes to Oxfordshire for work.

“Why should we when there is a perfectly good bus driving past several times a day if they would actually stop,” she said.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach West said: “We are in direct contact with Mrs Millard on this matter and are looking into ways to address the issue.

“We have also issued a reminder to our drivers to pay close attention to whether there are any intending passengers at that particular stop to try to ensure this situation does not arise again.

“Our local inspector will be monitoring this bus stop and intends to meet with Mrs Millard and her son.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience.”
