WILDLIFE rescue charities throughout the world are set to gain extra funding via an ethical insurance scheme launched in the Cotswolds last Monday (March 20).

Evergreen has a simple concept: customers who sign up for various insurance policies will be able to choose a charity for a percentage of commission payments from their policy.

A host of insurers will, from April 3, enable customers who purchase home, family, health and business products, to donate from 10 to 25 per cent each year to a wildlife charity of their choice.

Evergreen creator and founder David Gardiner, held the launch event at De Vere Cotswold Water Park, with guests encouraged to take photos of birds and animals from the hotel deck.

“It is a truly ethical product, which charities have informed us will make a massive difference to urgently needed support funds,” said David.

“Just as important, the customer can choose a charity and contribute without digging further into their pockets.”

David had taken his concept for Evergreen to Surrey Independent Advisors, which agreed to help develop the idea, with a number of insurers coming on-board, including Liverpool Victoria (LV).

Tom Thurston, of LV, said: “Evergreen brings a new dimension to people like ourselves, who are keen always to act responsibly and ethically, especially towards charities needing support.”

“This is a very special product and we are delighted to have an opportunity to offer Evergreen's benefits to our clients and those they wish to support.”

Barry Branigan. general manager of Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre, said: “In the past 22 years or so we have cared for up to 50,000 rescued animals and the numbers are growing.

“We cover 300 square miles, and obviously adequate funding is vital. Oak and Furrows needs to grow.

He added: “This partnership to join with an ethical product is hugely important to our future and that of others in the world of wildlife in need. Evergreen really does help meet great financial needs of our rescue centres.”

David went on to say that the response from prospective clients in America has been very encouraging.
