FISH and chip fans in Tetbury can now enjoy their favourite fast food knowing it is sourced sustainably by Stargazy Fish Bar.

The fish and chip restaurant has received a sustainability certification by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

The restaurant can now use the MSC 'blue tick' label on its bod and haddock, assuring customers that the fish has been responsibly caught using sustainable methods.

Recently named one of the top three newcomers in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2017, Stargazy is the first fish and chip shop for Tanya Kelly and her family who also own the adjoining hotel-restaurant, The Priory Inn.

Awarded the National Federation of Fish Friers Quality Award, Tanya and the team pride themselves on using top, local ingredients, often making their own products such as batter, fish cakes, curry sauce and minted mushy peas.

Tanya said: “It is very much part of our ethos as restaurant owners to be as environmentally sound as possible.

"We therefore fully support the efforts of the MSC to ensure that fisheries are working sustainably to help protect the future of our oceans. We are very proud of our certification!”

George Clark, UK commercial manager at the MSC, added: “It’s great to see a top industry newcomer like Stargazy Fish Bar prioritising sustainability by becoming MSC certified.

"By offering the choice of a sustainable fish supper, they and their customers are having a huge impact on healthy fish stocks. They’re setting a great example for other chippies in the area.”
