AHEAD of Mother’s Day, Cotswold mums and daughters are being urged to unite and join the fight against cancer by entering Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Cirencester.

The charity is inviting women of all ages and fitness to choose between a 5k, 10k or Pretty Muddy route, and pledge to take part in Cirencester on June 8 by attending the launch event at Tesco Kings Meadow this Saturday, March 25 from 10.30am-2pm.

Money raised will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to treat cancer and save more lives.

Kelly Rumble, Cancer Research UK’s Gloucestershire event manager, said: “We are urging mums and daughters in Gloucestershire to make this Mother’s Day extra special by pledging to take part in Race for Life.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time together, create precious memories and join like-minded women determined to beat cancer sooner.

“Sadly I won’t be able to spend Mother’s day with my mum as she passed away with cancer in 2004 aged 52.

“I wish I had chance to spend it with her and I think about what I would do on this day.

“She’s always in my thoughts but even more so when you see Mother’s Day items all around. This is what makes me determined to beat cancer so fewer people lose their loved ones.

“Together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.”

Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course.

Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take together will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Kelly added: “By coming together, they can be part of a formidable force of women who are all united in their determination to beat cancer. Ladies of Gloucestershire, we’ve no doubt that you’re up to the challenge.”
