A FAIRFORD school’s prom has had to change venues after a business event was booked in its place.

Farmor’s School had booked its year 11 prom at De Vere Cotswold Water Park to be held on June 21, after students have finished taking their GCSEs.

It is believed the booking was made several months ago, with the South Cerney venue then informing the school last month that they would have to re-arrange the date as a business event had now been booked instead.

Matthew Evans, Farmor’s School head teacher, said: “The cancellation is due to a subsequent business booking.

“I do not know whether this was due to a more lucrative offer or because the business wanted a larger space.

“I assume that the decision to cancel our booking made commercial sense.

“We are a repeat customer so the hotel must have felt it worthwhile risking putting us off for future years.”

He went on to say: “It is a pity as we have been very pleased with the service received over the years and I know other schools hold their prom at this venue also.”

He said De Vere did offer an alternative date, but the school chose to move venues instead so that the prom could go ahead otherwise as planned.

“Some of our students had already made holiday arrangements which would have affected their attendance at the prom,” he said.

“We are very happy with the alternative venue and excited about celebrating the end of exams with our brilliant Year 11 students,” he added.

A spokesperson for Cotswold Water Park said: “A mutual agreement with Farmor’s School has been settled, whereby Cotswold Water Park has reimbursed specific costs and offered musical entertainment support at Farmor’s School Prom.”
