  • THIS Saturday, January 21 at 10am Tetbury Library will launch Reading Ahead. This is for the adults who have not read for pleasure for a while. You will be able to get support and encouragement and incentives with monthly group meetings until June 17. Free, but contact the library to book your place.   • SUNDAY, January 22, as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, there will be a special service at 6pm at St Mary’s Church where congregations from Tetbury Area Churches Together will join together. The service will be led by Reverend Poppy Hughes of St Mary’s Church and she will be joined by Revd Noel Sharp of Christchurch. This is a wonderful service to celebrate the whole community coming together. So please do come along. 
  • THE next police open surgery/meeting point will be on Tuesday, January 24 from 11am-12pm at Tetbury Town council offices, The Old Courthouse, 63 Long Street. A chance to drop in and have an informal or formal chat with a local officer.
  • ON FRIDAY, January 27 you will be able to meet Jonathan Agnew (Aggers) the test match special commentator along with friends he met in Rio. This will be at Long Newnton church, from 7.30-9.30pm. Another confirmed guest is Tina Cook, the British three-day event rider and one-time Olympic medallist and also fellow commentator at the Rio Olympics. Tickets £15 per person and very limited.   • THE next Tetbury Town Council meeting will be on Monday, January 30 with S101 planning at 6.30pm followed by Full Council at 7pm. These meetings are open to the public and at the start of all council meetings there is 15 minutes section for public questions or statements. 
  • ON WEDNESDAY, February 8 there will be a special meeting for all the helpers for the French trip from 7-9pm at the Dolphins Hall. Open to all and anyone who has an interest in assisting or taking part. 
  • THE Friends of Tetbury  community transport February excursions in conjunction with community connections are: Cirencester (Saturday, February 11 from 9am-1pm). Yate  (Saturday, February 18 from 9am-1pm) and Cheltenham (Saturday, February 25 from 9am-3pm). To book call 03455 680 5029. These trips are sponsored by the Feoffees of Tetbury, Tetbury Lions, and Tetbury Town Council. 
  • ANNUAL General Meeting for Tetbury Area Churches Together TACT on Wednesday, February 8 at 7.30pm at St Michael’s Church with reports from the various individual churches: Christ church, Five valleys Christian fellowship, Gospel Hall, St  Mary’s, St Michaels. All are welcome to this AGM and would give anyone an ideal opportunity to find out more about the various churches or about the various projects that they oversee.

u THE recycling facilities alongside Coates Village Hall have been extended to include a clothing bin. 
Proceeds from the bin will go towards fundraising efforts for the village hall. 
This is a great way for the Coates community to help raise much needed funds for our hall and is also an environmentally friendly option right on our doorstep. 
So why not sort through your unwanted clothes and deposit them in the textile recycling bin.
u A CHARITY quiz night will be held in Coates Village Hall on Saturday, January 28.
Doors open from 6pm for 6.30pm start. 
Morwenna will be hosting a quiz night and raffle to combine fun with fundraising for her school’s expedition travelling to Nicaragua and Costa Rica. She will be helping to build schools and helping pupils with lessons. 
Teams of up to six people, individuals and smaller groups can combine with others on the night. 
There will be a hamper for first prize in the quiz and raffle prizes to include: wing walk, pub meals, baby sitting, drinks etc. 
Tickets are £7 per head which includes quiz, complimentary drink, snacks and meal (vegetarian/vegan available with prior notice).

  • WINNERS of December’s 300+ club draw, receiving from £13 down to £7, are Shaun Scott, Mike Tarrant, Olive Spencer, Jeremy Southam, Jill Bowyer, Nick Blows, and Kate Tullberg. Christmas bonus winners, each receiving £5, are Pam Pickthall, Kate Jobson, Fiona Picton, Glenys Parsons, Vicky Johnson, Mary Johnson, Tony Jolliffe and Joy Smith. After many years’ service to the village hall, through organising events and fundraising, Gwen Mason has decided to retire. The village hall owes Gwen (and Bill) many thanks for their loyalty, support and hard work.

  • CHARITY bingo, in aid of a different local charity each month, takes place tomorrow, at 7.30pm for 8pm start in the village hall, 50p entry and 30p a book. Light refreshments available.
  • THANKS to great support the church bazaar raised £1,127 for funds. The church would also like to thank the Boules committee for its recent kind donation.
  • SHERSTON community choir is delighted to have made £620 at November’s concert, held in conjunction with Sherston Primary School. £310 was donated to Julia’s House hospice and £310 to the Toti Worboys Fund for childhood leukaemia. A further £188 was collected at the carol singing around the village in December, which also goes to Julia’s House. If you would like to sing with the choir the new term has just started on Wednesdays, 7.30pm at the British School Room, all welcome.
  • AN EVENING of live music from Rural Arts Touring, is on Saturday, 7.30pm in the village hall. Ninebarrow will transport you through mysterious folk tales, wild landscapes and fascinating bits of history, with a dose of humour thrown in. Tickets cost £9 for adults, concessions £8 and under-16s £5. Suitable for all ages; licensed bar.
  • THE FRIENDS of Sherston school quiz night is on February 4 in the village hall. There will be an auction and a raffle. Bar opens at 7.30pm and the quiz starts at 8pm.
