STAFF past and present bade farewell to principal and CEO of Cirencester College, Kim Clifford.

Kim made her retirement announcement in August last year. But she acted as executive principal until the end of November.

She joined the college in January 2011 and led the college to re-designation as a Sixth Form College in December 2011, an honour which has only been bestowed on three colleges in the South West.

Despite cuts in education funding, the re-designation secured a major investment into a Sixth Form College.

Over the last few years a new 24 classroom block, and a much-needed Sports Centre have opened at the Fosse Way Campus.

Kim’s latest successful bid was funding for a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) building, which was opened by Dallas Campbell in October last year.

Chair of governors, Jane Sharp, unveiled a plaque in Kim's honour. Further presentations were made from staff and governors.

During Kim’s tenure, was invited to join the prestigious Maple Group, comprising the top 13 sixth form colleges in the country.

Kim, in her leaving speech, she said: “My intention to retire is for personal reasons but I would not be doing so unless I was confident that this college is in fantastic shape and due to prudent management in a good financial position.

"You are the most dedicated team of staff and governors I have ever met, who put the students first in everything they do, it hits you as soon as you walk in the door.”

Kim’s 'retirement' encompasses a new role as associate director of the Association of Colleges, representing sixth form colleges on the national stage.

Jim Grant, a senior member of staff since the college opened 25 years ago, has taken over as interim principal.
