  • IN LAST week’s edition it was said that we should all complete the questionnaire regarding the village plan. It should have been referred to as the South Cerney Neighbourhood Plan. This important exercise is necessary to ensure that not only will our current views have influence on all future planning approvals, it will stop the “presumption of the community being in favour” of development if NP not in place. Also, once the NP is in place it should result in more money being available to the parish from developers’ contributions. Complete your form before January 16. It is planned to hold a public meeting on March 25 where the analysis of the replies will be displayed.
  • SOUTH Cerney Gardening Club held its AGM last week when two long term members of the committee stood down. The rest of the committee and officers were re-elected but the club needs people to fill the vacancies. New members are always welcomed to this friendly group. You do not need to be an expert gardener to be a member. The annual programme covers a wide-ranging number of subjects. Membership £15 a year.
  • THURSDAY Group hold their AGM in the village hall this evening, January 12, at 7.45pm. New women members always welcomed.
  • UBICO, the CDC contractors, have started cleaning the streets and pavements throughout the main village. It is understood that following the main roads being swept last week, another team with smaller machines will be finishing the job in the next few days.
  • SOUTH Cerney Players held successful auditions for their spring production last week with all the roles being filled. Rehearsals have now started with their show being staged in late March.

  • A HOLY Communion service takes place at St Peter’s church on Sunday, January 15, starting at 10am.
  • THE CHURCH flower arranging team is looking for new members for 2017. The rota is arranged on a monthly basis with members working in pairs, each pair taking responsibility for one month of the year. Generally two arrangements are maintained in the church so the task isn’t too time-consuming. Arranging for Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas, when there are more flowers in the church, takes place on a specific day and all team members are involved. You don’t have to be a church-goer to join the team and you don’t need to be an expert flower arranger.  The aim is to make the church look welcoming, not to win prizes, and you can always ask a more experienced team member for help or advice. If you would like to help out, or if you would like more information, contact Jill Simmonds on 01285 654633.
