  • CHRISTMAS Soiree in Kempsford Church this Saturday December 3 at 7pm. Everyone welcome, no tickets necessary, local children singing and providing festive entertainment.
  • VILLAGE hall cafe Thursday, December 8 from 12-2pm. Homemade soups and bread, delicious cakes and mince pies, fresh coffee and speciality teas.
  • DUE to the cancellation of last week’s event at the village hall it has been decided to hold the raffle at this month’s village cafe on December 8. 
  • WHELFORD women have produced a calendar showing local scenes to raise funds for Whelford village Hall. They will be available after the family carol service at St Anne’s Church on Thursday, December 15, for a minimum donation of £5 each. Please pre-order by phoning Lindsey on 07775698265. Christmas cards of Kempsford and Whelford Churches are still available.
  • NO Football/Youth Group on Wednesday, December 7, because of the School’s KS2 carol concert. Wednesday, December 14, is the last meeting before Christmas with fun-filled special activities. The Club will restart on January 4 2017.
  • A NEW car park is now available opposite the school, vehicle access being from Top Road. This should ease the congestion outside the school.
  • THANK you to everyone who donated items for the jumble sale, made cakes and the people who spent money. £195 was raised for the school.
  • EVERY Wednesday morning at 9.30am in Kempsford Church a short service of morning prayer will be held. Everyone welcome including pre-school children.
  • HOLY Communion this Sunday at 10am at Whelford Church led by Rev Curwen Rawlinson. The Rev Lynn Hayler will lead the Holy Communion service at 10am at Kempsford Church.
  • SANTA’S Grotto in the school hall this Saturday, December 3, 10am-2.30pm. Please come and join in the fun, games and festive refreshments. Raffle prizes range from a sports massage to tickets to Freedog in Swindon Trampolining Centre.

  • CALL My Bluff and Pudding Evening in aid of Love Fairford on Saturday, December 3 in Fairford United Church, Milton Street.
  • PUB quiz at The Railway on Sunday, December 4 from 7pm, £1 a contestant, teams of between three and eight people, winning team takes home cash.
  • JAM (Jesus and Me) Club will meet on Sunday, December 4 at 10am in St Mary’s Church, Fairford, stories, craft and fun. 
  • FAIRFORD & District Choral Society next choral concert is on Sunday, December 4 at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Fairford. This will be a performance of Dvorak’s Mass in D and Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen. Tickets £12, under 18s £5, from Blenheim Antiques or fairford.org/choralsociety

  • KELMSCOTT Christmas craft fair will take place in the Morris Memorial Hall, Kelmscott, GL7 3HG on Saturday, December 3 from 11am-3.30pm, free admission and parking. There will be a wide range of Morris design items as well as a variety of handcrafted and unique wares. For further information call 01367 253103. Please take cash or cheque for payments. Credit card facilities may not be available, proceeds to the Morris Memorial Hall.
  • ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3, Lechlade Market Place will be the place to see the lights switched on. From 4pm there will be BBQ, crepes, mulled wine, candy floss, a funfair and other stalls. St Lawrence School will sing carols at 5.30pm, led by ‘The Paws Patrol’. Father Christmas and Mrs Christmas arrive at 5.45pm and the big ‘switch on’ will be at 6pm with bellringing and fireworks. There will be presents from Father Christmas at 6.15pm – children only.

  • THERE is still time to take part in the Lechlade annual quiz with prizes donated by local businesses. Closing date for entries is Sunday, December 18. Quiz sheets available from the Lechlade Community Library at just £1 and all proceeds to the Lechlade Memorial Hall fundraising appeal.
  • CHRISTMAS celebration takes place on Saturday, December 10 at 7.30pm in St Lawrence Church. The Lechlade Players, Organist/pianist John Wright and local singing florist Delores will present an eclectic mix of poetry, prose and music. Tickets  £10 to include a glass of wine or fruit juice from Lechlade Post Office or Helen Jones, 01367 252402, helensfjones@aol.com. The evening is a joint fundraiser for the Lechlade Players and the Church Restoration and Maintenance Appeal.
