  • CHRISTMAS in Tetbury starts tonight December 1. Christmas lights switch on at 6pm at the Market House with Mark Cummings of BBC radio Gloucestershire, assisted by a special pupil from St Mary’s School. Torchlight procession at 5.50pm from St Mary’s Church and carols. Market stalls and late-night shopping.  Santa’s grotto will be upstairs in the Market House from 6.15-7.30pm. The car parks will be free from 4pm. Church Street will be closed from 4-8pm.
  • THURSDAY, December 1 sees the start of the Christmas tree Festival at St Saviours Church, New Church Street from 5pm. Also open on Friday and Saturday from 9am-5pm. The festival concludes with a carol service from 5.30pm at St Saviours Church. Many trees will be decorated by local schools and organisations and clubs. Any donations will be divided between Tetbury Scouts and guides and the Churches Conservation Trust.
  • A CHRISTMAS  Trail children’s competition. Spot the hidden letters in some of the shop windows of Tetbury that will spell out something connected to Christmas. Return your form to Henrietta’s House, or Filly’s. Prize draw on December 20. To pick up an entry form please contact Henrietta’s House or Filly’s. Entry fee £1.
  • SATURDAY, December 3 there will be a Christmas market in aid of St Mary’s Church in the Market House from 10am-12.30pm.  Produce stalls, tombola, Christmas gifts, jewellery fair trade stall and Christmas card making for children. Coffee and mince pies.
  • SUNDAY, December 4 is the Christingle Service at the Church of St Mary the Virgin & St Mary Magdalen. 4pm. All proceeds to The Children’s Society.
  • COTSWOLD District Council, with the Feffoees of Tetbury, have agreed to have free car parking in their own car parks on Friday, December 2 and 3. 
  • THE police open surgery/meeting points for December are Thursday, December 8 from 2-3pm. Wednesday, December 14 from 9-10am and Friday, December 23 from 10-11am at Tetbury Town Council Offices, The Old Courthouse, 63 Long Street. 
  • A VACANCY has arisen for a councillor for the town council ward. The vacancy will be filled by election if a request from 10 local government electors for the town ward is received by December 16. Requests should include each elector's name, address and signature and should be sent to the returning officer, Nigel Adams, returning officer, Council offices, Trinity Road, Cirencester, Glos, GL7 1PX. If an election is called it will take place no later than February 22 2017.
  • ON FRIDAY, December 9 there will be a special late-night shopping extravaganza, with shops open until 8.30pm. There will be pop-up shops and discount drinks and nibbles.
  • JILL Dodge, the fundraiser for Tetbury Rail Lands regeneration trust, wants to thank the local businesses who gave prizes for a raffle which raised £1380,00. 
  • THE  Meet the Mayor event raised £28 in aid of Children In Need. Thanks to Jill from the TIC for making the cake.

  • SALES of poppies this year in Coates totalled £528, thanks to our dedicated sellers Shelagh, Anne, John, Dee and Angus. Thanks, too, to the Thames Head and Tunnel House.
  • THE Coates Gardening Club Christmas social will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, December 1 in the village hall. Carol Wilson will offer an entertaining quiz, this will be followed by a bring and share supper with delicious food, wine or a soft drink, contact Margaret Reynolds 771354.
  • ON SATURDAY, December 3 there will be a Christmas Bazaar in Rodmarton Village Hall from 2-4.30pm. Craft stalls, Father Christmas, mince pies and mulled wine, free entry, everyone welcome.
  • ON THURSDAY, December 8, Coates Good Companions are holding a Christmas dinner, for ticket holders only, with drinks from 12.15pm and dinner at 1pm. Entertainment by Uke Box Jury.
  • HOLY Communion services are being held on Sunday, December 4, at 9.30am in Coates and at 11am in Rodmarton.
