THERE is one more week to have your say about the future of sexual health services in Gloucestershire.

A public consultation on how sexual health services should be run in the future closes on October 23.

Gloucestershire County Council launched its consultation in August to find out how the community felt about plans for the future.

This consultation is an opportunity for the council to hear people’s views on four main principles which would form the basis of the sexual health services.

The principles outlined in the consultation include:

  • how people should find it easy to access the care they need, regardless of the service they require or the location they attend;
  • that services provide care focused on need thus ensuring those who most need help have access to specialist services targeted to their needs;
  • the prevention of poor sexual health outcomes (such as unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections) through relationship education, access to information and targeted schemes for vulnerable or high-need groups;
  • and how to maximise the use of technology to allow people to access services most appropriate for them.

It is important that information is easily accessible to allow individuals to access services most convenient for them and can choose the option of home and self sampling/testing services.

Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for public health at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Making sure that these services meet the needs of all areas of communities is essential, especially for those who are most vulnerable.

“In order for us to understand what people want from our services; we need to hear from them. Your views really do influence our decision making, so please do let us know what you want from the service.”

The questionnaire will be available to complete online at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/sexualhealth and paper copies will be available from libraries, GP surgeries and pharmacies.
