UKIP candidate for Gloucestershire County councillor, Glen Gogerly, has called on the Conservative government to provide more resources to the local police force.

The call is being made after a spate of serious crime in the county over the last few days such as Tuesday night's armed robbery at Londis in Stonehouse High Street, Saturday's double stabbing in Longlevens in Gloucester, the recent murder in Archdeacon Street in Gloucester City Centre, the killer clowns in Churchdown, and the serious assault in Cheltenham High Street.

Mr Gogerly said: "It is clear that the police are being starved of resources by the Conservative Government.

"I thought that the Conservatives were supposed to be the party of Law and Order.

"It is my understanding that on any given night there are just four patrol cars, each manned by a single officer, for the whole of Gloucestershire.

"Not only is this putting police officers' safety at risk, it is also creating a very thin blue line and preventing members of the public from going about their lawful business for fear of what could happen to them.

"This latest incident in Stonehouse, where I am campaigning for the reintroduction of a 'bobby on the beat', is yet one more example of an incredible litany of serious crime which has taken place throughout our county in just the last few days.

"This is not the fault of the police they are doing the very best that they possibly can with overstretched and underfunded resources."

"I call upon all six of Gloucestershire's Conservative MPs to write to the unelected Prime Minister Theresa May to demand increased financial support for Gloucestershire Constabulary before any even more serious incidents take place.

"Mrs May should of course be familiar with the situation as she was until very recently the Home Secretary."
