PUPILS and teachers at Farmor’s School today celebrated some very impressive GCSE results, which were ‘even better than last year’ according to head teacher Matthew Evans.

The Fairford school saw 78 per cent of pupils achieve both Maths and English at grades A*–C, while 71 per cent of students earned five or more A*–C grades.

34 per cent achieved five or more A* or A grades.

Mr Evans said: “I am delighted that our students have achieved so well in their GCSEs this year.

“Results were even better than last year and, as exams are getting tougher and national results are declining, we continue to buck the trend.

“We’re immensely proud of our students.

“I am sure they will join me in thanking the fantastic teachers that taught them and all the staff who have supported them through their time at the school.”

The average grade for the school was B- while 46 students achieved five or more A*–A grades.

The following 12 pupils achieved 10 or more A*/A grades: Molly Davis, Elfie Reigate, William Spurway, Scott Mounty, Toby Jack, Madeline Durham, Emma Waite, Sophie Oakes, Joseph Powell, Sarah Kinder, Aidan Van Der Heiden and Emily Toogood.

“We had a strong group of very high achievers this year,” said Mr Evans, adding:

“We’ve got a really good intake to Sixth Form this year, with six more students achieving the results they needed to get onto their courses.

“The majority of them [GCSE pupils] stay on to do A-Levels at the school, some go onto college or to apprenticeships.

“But all the students I’ve spoken to this morning have got the grades they needed to do whichever course they wanted to do, which is great.”
