STRATTON C of E Primary School held their own Race for Life on the last day of term.

Cirencester Town mayor Mark Harris started the proceedings and the oldest and youngest pupils at the school started the race.

They were followed by pre-schoolers and their parents and siblings running and walking the first circuit of 250 metres.

Reception then ran with their buddies from Year 6, who accompanied the younger children.

By lunch time, children and staff had covered a total of 221 miles, almost 50 miles more than last year.

The school raised £830, which included more than £100 collected in cash on the day.

Shirley Bond, sports coordinator and special needs coordinator who retired this summer after 20 years at the school, said: "It was extra special for me as it was my last day before I retired from Stratton School.

"We challenged ourselves and helped others as well as thinking about people who are less fortunate than us. What a stunning day!"
