A 95-YEAR-OLD woman is waiting for an ambulance in Cirencester more than two hours after a ‘serious fall’, her son has told the Standard.

Paul Blannin called the Standard just after 4pm today to say he had been waiting since 3.20pm for an ambulance at Mulberry Court care home, after his elderly mother, Nancy, fell and hit her head.

A paramedic arrived at 5.30pm who then assessed Paul's mother, subsequently calling an ambulance, which they are still waiting for.

“My mum fell and hit her head quite badly on the door frame,” said Paul. “She’s with two carers but is in and out of consciousness. It was a serious fall and she is bleeding.

"She is begging for help because she is in so much pain. The carers have been holding a pressure pad on the wound for two hours and it is still bleeding heavily.

“Nobody has turned up and they cannot put a timescale on when the ambulance will arrive. They said they are a bit stretched."

He said he has called the emergency services three times and explained the situation.

"We daren't move her because she fell heavily on a concrete floor and there's a worry she might have done further damage.”

Referring to the ambulance service, he added: "They're not stretched. There's not enough ambulances and staff, that's the problem."

Once the paramedic had arrive Paul continued: “When you call the ambulance service they send whoever is available and the paramedic came first.

“Now he’s said she needs to go to the hospital, so called an ambulance, but we don’t know how long that will be.

“It’s still unacceptable either way.”

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “If the patient’s son would like to discuss this incident we would urge him to get in touch with our patient experience team.”
