CHEDWORTH Roman Villa will be recreating Roman military and civilian life.

The villa will be hosting the week-long event ‘The Romans are coming!’ from Saturday 30 July to Friday 5 August.

The event is being hosted with the Roman Military Research Society, which investigates and performs experiments to recreate Roman military and civil life.

They demonstrate the skills of the Roman Army and Romano-British people, including infantry, artillery, archery and everyday customs.

Displays will cover many aspects of Roman life from religion and medicine to food, engineering and warfare.

All armour, clothing, weapons and artillery have been made within the Society after extensive research.

Drill commands, songs and invocations are in Latin, as are the names of legionaries and civilians, helping to give a real flavour of the past.

Visitor services co-ordinator at Chedworth Roman Villa, Sigute Barniskyte-Kidd, said: "We aim to host events that entertain as well as accurately depict the Romano-British history.

"This is the first time that Roman Military Research Society will appear at Chedworth Roman Villa. The displays that they have planned promise a really fun and inspiring living history week."
