TWO lucky residents from Paternoster House care home in Cirencester celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday at the Patrons Lunch in London.

Nancy Whitman and Barbara Gardiner, both 84, were awarded tickets to join 10,000 guests at The Mall, near Buckingham Palace, for the celebrations on Sunday, June 12.

Two members of staff at the house went along to accompany the women.

The women enjoyed free drinks and ice cream and came home with an executive hamper.

They were also given the opportunity to meet Princess Anne, her husband Timothy Laurence, and BBC presenter Chris Hollins.

Nancy said: "It was a lovely day although it poured with rain. It was the atmosphere with all the bands marching and the dancing.

"We had cups of tea and ice cream and watched the parade.

"There was the Queen and Prince Philip in their car, and Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate.

"We also met Princess Anne and her husband. She was lovely, she talked about how she had passed through Cirencester earlier.

"I will never forget this opportunity. It was such an honour.

"Many years ago, I worked in a hospital where Prince Charles came with a broken arm. Whether that helped me to get a ticket, I don't know."
