  • OAKSEY fete is on Saturday, July 2, with cake, bottle, bric-a-brac, and plant and produce stalls, plus a tombola and much, much more.
  • THE summer bike ride takes place on Saturday and is a 15 mile route suitable for all; taking in a mixture of lanes, muddy tracks, byways and a water splash. It starts at the village hall at 10am and ending at The Wheatsheaf. Contact Roger Squance on 01666 577679, email rsquance@btinternet.com.

  • MEMBERS of the public are welcome to attend Kemble and Ewen Parish council meeting tomorrow Friday at 7.30pm in Kemble Village Hall. Whilst the public may not speak during the actual meeting, if they have a particular area of concern, a short time can be given for discussion, generally prior to the meeting. 
  • A FREE first aid course takes place in Kemble village hall this Saturday from 9am until 12.30pm. This is open to anyone who would like to learn basic first aid and to those who want to renew their skills. Contact the parish clerk Liz Hall on 770510 to book your place.
  • THIS Saturday, Somerford Keynes village church fete will be held at Croft House, GL7 6DW from 2pm by kind permission of Sir Richard and Lady Needham. Attractions include Phoenix Flames cheerleaders, song requests by PAVO, bouncy castle and many children’s games. Stalls include cakes, crafts, bottles, jams, preserves and cream teas. Entry is £3 adults, children under 16 free. 
  • SUNDAY services are at 9.30am in Kemble – Morning Prayer and Holy Communion in Poole Keynes and at 11am Somerford Keynes will hold Holy Communion. At 6pm in Kemble, The Source which has an informal worship style.
  • MEET your friends and neighbours at The Coffee Stop held on Monday mornings from 10-11.30am in Kemble village hall. Hot drinks and £1 refills free with biscuits/cakes. 
  • PLEASE assemble at Kemble War Memorial at 7.20am on Friday, July 1 when a short tribute Whistle for the Somme will be made. At 7.30am on July 1, 1916 whistles blew along The Western Front as a signal to the troops to go ‘over the top’, this was the start of one of the bloodiest battles of the Great War, the Battle of the Somme. A wreath will be laid remembering both anniversaries of Jutland and the Somme. Kemble and District Royal British Legion members have organised similar short tributes to take place in Somerford Keynes and Oaksey villages in their churches and in Coates village at the memorial.
