A CIRENCESTER centenarian enjoyed celebrating her birthday with close friends at her favourite town cafe.

Moreen Josey who turned 100 last Sunday (24), celebrated the milestone birthday at Café Mosaic in the Woolmarket.

When asked for her tips on living a long life, Miss Josey said that “eating sensibly and ignoring fad diets” was important to her.

Born and raised in London, Miss Josey said living in the city was an exciting part of her life.

She worked as a photographers apprentice after leaving school at the age of 16 and later illustrated a book about the famous Worcester porcelain.

She said “it wasn’t dull during the war” as she recalled walking to work over glass after the bombing at the time of the Blitz.

When she moved to Cirencester in 1945, she began working as a shop assistant at Leonard Jones Jewellery store which was situated in West Market Place.

She describes herself as solitary person who likes her own space and enjoys her weekly visit to Café Mosaic, where staff are “friendly and caring.”

When asked how today’s world compares to the one she grew up in she explained: “It was much calmer in every sense."
