TWO people from Cirencester arrested in connection with a £1.2 million fraud racket have had their bail extended.

In December, the Standard reported that a Portuguese couple living in St Michael’s Road, Cirencester, had been ordered by a judge to sell a property they had bought near Lisbon and hand over the proceeds before March this year.

At the time, Joao De Sousa and Sandra Ribeira were not charged with any criminal offence but Alan Hopkinson, of the police financial investigation unit, said the allegations against them surrounded Ms Ribeira’s work as an admin assistant for a firm of conveyancing solicitors.

Police confirmed bail had been extended until February 18.
