THREE Cotswold care workers have been recognised for their outstanding work at a prestigious awards ceremony.

Not-for-profit care provider Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) celebrated the dedication of people that continually go beyond the call of duty at the Chairman’s Commendation Awards in Guildhall in Salisbury on November 11.

Head nurse Susan Strickland, who joined the team at Paternoster House, in Watermoor Road, Cirencester, nearly 25 years ago, was delighted with her award.

She tends to work behind the scenes to make special events go off without a hitch, including printing passports for an ‘Around the world in eight hours’ workshop and supplying costumes and memorabilia for musicals.

Michael Bosworth, a volunteer at Paternoster House, was also praised for his unerring work.

He started visiting almost ten years ago when his mother was admitted for care, but soon found himself chatting to other residents. Eventually, he was part of the Paternoster House family and despite his mother’s death continues to be involved in activities.

Care assistant Christina Habbitts has been part of OSJCT for 25 years and currently works at Jubilee Lodge in Bourton-on-the-Water.

She was described as "a loyal, dedicated and well-respected employee, as nothing is too much trouble as far as the residents are concerned" by a spokesman.

“Everyone in the home looks forward to Christina being on shift, as she always has a smile and friendly word for everyone,” he added.

Chris Poole, interim assistant operations director, said: “Every single one of our employees work extremely hard throughout the year delivering and maintaining the best standard of care to our residents.”

Also given awards were Wioletta Meler of Orchard House, Cheltenham and Samantia Deflorimonte Rose, of The Elms, Stonehouse.
