FIVE care workers from Gloucestershire have been recognised for their outstanding achievements and quality of care at a special awards ceremony.

The Chairman’s Commendation Awards, held by the Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT) at the Guildhall in Salisbury on November 11, saw OSJCT employees Susan Strickland, Wioletta Meler, Samantia Deflorimonte Rose, Michael Bosworth and Christina Habbitts all presented with the Chairman's Commendation for Meritorious Service.

OSJCT operates 68 care homes located in the counties of Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, while winning employees were presented with their award by OSJCT chairman Don Wood.

Ms Strickland, head nurse at Paternoster House in Cirencester, said: “I was very honoured to receive the award, having been nominated by my manager, Joy. It’s always nice to get recognition for your work.

“Paternoster House has been like my second home and I love working here, especially organising events for the residents. My certificate is on display here and I get to wear a special badge.”

Ms Strickland joined the team at Paternoster nearly 25 years ago as a carer. She achieved her nursing qualifications and has since risen to the position of head nurse, often working behind the scenes for various events at the care home, including ‘Around the World in 8 hours’.

Chris Poole, OSJCT interim assistant operations director for Gloucestershire, said: “Every single one of our employees work extremely hard throughout the year delivering and maintaining the best standard of care to our residents.

“It is great to be able to recognise employees on their exceptional commitment throughout their day to day duties and commend their hard work at such an important and prestigious event.

“The Chairman’s Commendation Awards are the perfect occasion for us to shine the spotlight on our very own stars and our way of recognising the hard work and dedication of our employees, honouring those that have really stood out during 2015.”
