A TASK force to tackle safety issues on the A429 has been given unanimous approval by county councillors.

Gloucestershire County Council’s Overview Scrutiny Management Committee agreed to the group being set up last Friday.

The move was sparked by a crash in July which left two dead, the last in a long line of fatal accidents on the road.

County councillors Paul Hodgkinson and Nigel Moor pushed to start a safety review.

“The group will take evidence about the various problems along the road – accidents, poor road surface, gridlock at peak and holiday times - and will then come up with recommendations next spring,” said Cllr Hodgkinson.

“The A429 runs right through the Cotswolds – from south of Kemble through Cirencester to the iconic towns and villages further north like Bourton. It’s the way many get to the Midlands and south to the M4 so it deserves a really good examination of the issues.”
