ASHTON KEYNES will once again have a post office service thanks to the efforts of the village’s parish council.

In October last year, the post office in the village closed down following the retirement of postmaster Graham Clarke who stepped down after 31 years.

But following talks between the council and Post Office Ltd, a person has been found to run an outreach post office at the parish council owned Village Hall on a trail 12 month period.

At the parish council’s meeting earlier this month, councillors gave their backing to proposals to set up the service at the hall.

It was also decided at the meeting that the hall’s management committee will have a rent discount of £15 per month because the building's utility bills would be higher because of the post office.

Post Office Ltd had attempted to find a replacement for Mr Clarke following his departure but its efforts proved to be unsuccessful so it decided to close the building.

Since then, the council and Post Office Ltd have been working together set up an outreach post office service.

The post office service will be open on Tuesdays between 9.30am and 12.30pm and Thursdays between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

It is expected that the service will be up and running early in the new year.
