GLOWING reviews hit the national papers after Cider With Rosie aired on the BBC.

Archie Cox took most of the praise for playing the starring role of Laurie Lee as he grows into a man in Slad, close to Stroud.

Archie’s family gathered in their South Cerney home to watch.

Archie said: “We all sat down together, they said it was really good and really liked it.

“My iPad was going off every two seconds while the show was on, I must’ve had about 200 messages from people, some of them were people I’d never even met.

“I thought my friends might give me a bit of stick but everyone’s been really supportive.”

Archie’s mother Claire had already seen it three times but still enjoyed it.

“It was really nice to sit down with everyone and watch it,” he said.

She added that they were planning to meet some agents in half term to see if any were a good fit.

“I wouldn’t mind what Archie chose to do, I’d be proud of him anyway. Let’s just hope he doesn’t go to Hollywood because he’d be really far away!”

Good reviews flooded the papers following the airing of the show.

Sam Wollaston, writing in the Guardian, said: "Young Archie Cox is the teenage Lee, encapsulating awkwardness and embarrassment, mischief and discovery."

Ceri Radford, writing in the Telegraph, said: "Young Laurie/Lol, played by Georgie Smith, was taciturn and entirely natural; while as teenaged Lol, the brilliant Archie Cox was all knees and elbows, his expression tilting from sweet little boy to sharp-faced youth."
