A CONTENTIOUS application has been lodged to build on Cirencester’s Humpty Dumps.

Developer Baylight Properties has applied to build up to 69 homes, including affordable housing, on the hilly area next to Bowling Green Lane.

The company planned to build 100 homes in 2010 but were delayed as residents sought to protect the land from development by getting the area designated as village green status

After a long fight the proposal was rejected by Gloucestershire County Council in April.

In July, residents concerned an application would be lodged gathered on the Humpty Dumps to show their resistance.

Cotswold Distict Council planners state on the application: “The proposed development does not accord with the provisions of the development plan in force in the area in which the application is site is located."

Mark Freeman, in charge of the applications for Baylight Properties, said: “We’ve run two consultation and the plans we have submitted address the concerns we received from those.

“We look forward to working with the local authority and Cirencester Town Council to build some fabulous, affordable and well designed properties that benefit the area.”

He added that part of the Humpty Dumps would remain free from development as a compromise with residents.
