A GROOM was arrested on his wedding day following a street fight in Cirencester town centre which involved between ten and 15 people.
It is alleged that the 54-year-old man assaulted two people in the incident, which occurred just after 8pm on Friday, on the corner of Castle Street opposite HSBC and involved members of two different families.
After a discussion with the group involved, who had left the man’s wedding function prior to the incident, officers arrested the man on suspicion of affray and assault.
He was later released without charge and issued with a Penalty Notice for Disorder (PND), meaning he received a fine of £50 and will have a record of the incident recorded on his police record.
Chris Jackson, a spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: “After a discussion between the families it was decided to give the man a fixed penalty notice.”
A second man, a 24 year old from Marlborough, who is described by police as the instigator of the incident, was also arrested on suspicion of affray and assault but later released without charge and given a caution.
