TWO teenagers have been arrested in relation to an incident where a sit-on lawnmower was stolen from Lechlade Amateur Football Club (LAFC) and then torched.

In the incident on August 13 at the club’s Recreation Ground, a storage shed was broken into, the lawnmower was removed from it and then pushed 100 yards to the goalmouth where the arson took place.

The youngsters aged 15 were arrested in connection with the incident and the theft of a red Rover lawnmower from a shed in Briary Road in the village later on that morning.

And at 2.45am on the same morning, police received a report of two men wearing dark clothing and hoodies pushing a lawnmower on The Cursus in Lechlade, near the Recreation Ground.

John Elsey, chairman of LAFC said the attack on the mower, has brought everyone at the club closer together.

He said: “We won't let these thugs deter us from doing what we want to do.”

Due to the loss of the lawnmower, the club has to pay grass cutting fees but this has put the club under financial pressure as it has a small budget.

LAFC is trying to raise £500 to buy another lawnmower, if you wish to make a donation contact the club’s chairman, John Elsey on 01367 252983.

The teenagers have been bailed until September 14.
