GRAHAM Morgan has been appointed as chairman of Gloucestershire County Council.
At a full council meeting on Wednesday, May 20, Mr Morgan was unanimously voted into the new posts for the 2015/2016 civic year.
Mr Morgan (Lab), who has been in local government for 20 years, moves from his role of vice-chairman to chairman, replacing Cllr Phil Awford.
Theward councillor for Cinderford, said: “I am delighted to be elected as chairman of the council. It is an honour and a privilege, and I hugely appreciate being given the opportunity by my colleagues.
Colin Hay (Lib Dem)was unanimously voted into the role of vice-chairman at the meeting.
He brings a wealth of experience in civic duties to the role having previously served as Cheltenham’s Mayor.
He said: “Its going to be very busy but very enjoyable. I’m looking forward to taking on the civil duties that come with the position, and playing my part in welcoming new citizens into the county.
In a separate vote, Iain Dobie (Lib Dem) was elected as the new chairman for the health and Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
