SOUTH Cerney Parish Council (SCPC) has written letters of objection against plans to allow 40,000 tonnes of waste to be processed in the village.
Cotswold District Council (CDC) as submitted two planning applications for approval.
One is to CDC and involves expanding a vehicle storage site, Packers Lease on Broadway Lane, to hold 33 refuse vehicles, 25 vans and 72 cars.
SCPC wrote to object on the grounds it would harm road safety, create noise, damage tourism and is not the most suitable location for the area it will serve.
The letter states: “The refuse vehicles would conflict with the large volume of other traffic along the Spine Road, in particular causing danger to pedestrian and cyclists.”
The other plan, submitted to Gloucestershire County Council (GCC), is to use the site to process and transfer waste.
SCPC also has written to GCC.
“South Cerney Parish Council strongly objects to this planning application. It is contrary to several specific principles of the National Planning Policy Framework,” the letter states.
It then highlights how the proposed site will harm the area, including its detriment to the local economy, its affect on health – including the smell and noise – and its affect on traffic.
