A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after losing control of his van near a Kemble junction where there has been several accidents in the past year.
The man had to be cut free from his vehicle following the incident, which occurred around 3.30pm today on the A429 near Kemble Business Park, and he was then taken to Soutmead Hospital in Bristol.
In the exact same spot in October 2014, 38-year-old Anthony Edward Jeng from Crudwell lost his life after being involved in a collision.
A policeman at the scene said: “He is currently breathing and his injuries are not considered life threatening.”
Workers from the Kemble Business Park , which is next to the junction, said after the accident that traffic calming measures need to be introduced to prevent further accidents.
Frank Wright, who works at Woodworx Joinery at Kemble Business Park said: “It is becoming a nuisance really. Something needs doing, People are losing their lives.”
He said measures like creating a mini roundabout or traffic lights at the junction could help prevent further accidents.
He added that a lot of people are driving quickly and that traffic calming would help or police with speed cameras.
Derek Bignell, a member of staff at Cotswold Outdoors, said: “There are too many accidents, it is an accident black spot. They need to create a mini roundabout or something.”
Alex Porter, who also works at Cotswold Outdoors said he was concerned that there has been several accidents at the junction and suggested that signs should be placed at approaches to the junction to warn drivers it is there.
The stretch of road where the incident occurred is now clear and there are no delays.
