TRAFFIC is mounting up after a major crash near a 'lethal' crossroads in Kemble this afternoon.

Wiltshire police were called to the A429 near Kemble Business Park at 3.30pm today after a crash involving a van and a car near the Culkerton Crossroads.

An air ambulance arrived just after 4pm. Fire fighters are also on the scene as one of drivers was trapped. He has now been freed.

Traffic is backed up both ways and police are advising drivers to take another route home. Diversions are in place.

Jon Shepherd from Cotswold Outdoor, a business based right next to the notorious stretch of road, said that the area is getting dangerous and something needs to be done.

"People see it as an opportunity to speed up and overtake. It's far too dangerous," he said.

In October last year 38-year-old Anthony Edward Jeng from Crudwell died in a crash on this exact stretch of road.

"It's just a matter of time before someone else dies," said Jon.

One of the Standard's reporters is currently at the scene.

More to follow as soon as possible.

UPDATE: The road has now been cleared and traffic is flowing normally. One of the drivers has been taken by air ambulance to Bristol's Southmead Hospital but his injuries are not being treated as life threatening.
