A SCHEME to make improvements to the A417 Missing Link has been given a cash boost of £1 million funding from the county council.
The cash for the Missing Link, has been put aside from the council’s budget for next year and will be given the Highways Agency, which manages the road, to carry out investigative work ahead of developing the solution.
The news of the funding follows an announcement by the government in December that it would invest £255 million into improving the road.
Last year the council launched the A417 Loop campaign, which asked for improvements to the A417 Missing Link, including replacing the single-lane route from Cowley to Brockworth with a dual carriageway.
Mark Hawthorne, leader of the council, said: “Our campaign has helped us demonstrate to government just how important upgrading this road is to people from all over the county and all over the country. We hope our funding pledge shows our commitment to support the Highways Agency to make it happen.”
