LEA & Garsdon Primary School Girls’ under 11 football team are celebrating after becoming the second ranked team in the county.

They climbed up the rankings after reaching the Wiltshire Schools Under 11 Cup final, which were held at Chippenham’s Stanley Park .

In the tournament, they represented mid-Wiltshire and lost narrowly on penalties in the final to Holy Cross RC School, Swindon.

Head teacher Kay Vousden praised the achievement of the team, which has conceded only one goal in twelve games.

She said: “I am incredibly proud of the team’s performance. For a small village school to reach the final of a county cup is no mean feat and is testament to the girls’ hard work, character and enthusiasm.

“It’s amazing to think we have the second best girls’ football side in the whole of Wiltshire.”

In the run up to the final, the team were in a fine run of form and beat Luckington, Minety, Sherston and Corsham School.

The team practices weekly after school with member of staff Alison Withers, who has generously given up her own time to coach the girls, and has been well supported by parents.
