JASON Daniels has been found guilty of assaulting a police officer outside his Cirencester home and using threatening and abusive language in The Crown pub in the town.

Daniels, 43, had denied the charges but was convicted at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court today.

Prosecution solicitor Graham Dono told the court that on March 7 this year, Daniels assaulted PC Graham Ashley Cox when he was being arrested outside his home in Querns Road.

Mr Dono said: “PC Cox attended his home address for an alleged home assault and found Mr Daniels was intoxicated.

"He handcuffed him and as he was thrashing about during his arrest, the defendant's tooth came into contact with the finger of PC Cox , causing no injury."

Claire Buckley, defending Daniels, told the court the reason he was upset was that his girlfriend was the alleged victim of the assault earlier that day, but was not supporting police action.

She said: “She told police not to arrest him. She was upset, that led to him being upset and lashing out.”

Mr Dono told the court that on March 19 police attended The Crown in West Market Place, after receiving a phone call from staff informing them that Daniels was using threatening and abusive behaviour towards a customer.

District Judge David Robinson fined Daniels a total of £150 for the offences.

He said to Daniels: “These were two very unpleasant incidents, and a fine is acceptable. For each I am going to fine you £75.”

Daniels is also facing a string of other charges.

Last week he was charged with two counts of common assault, assault by beating and actual bodily harm, relating to an alleged attack on three women and a man at the Mad Hatter wine bar in Castle Street on September 6.

He is due to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court for this case on December 16.

While he is scheduled for Gloucester Crown Court on December 19 to face charges of conspiracy to supply cocaine along with his father Michael Daniels, and a separate count of driving while disqualified.
