DETAILS are still not available on how Cirencester's road network would cope with a planned development of 2,500 homes.

John Thompson and Partners (JTP) are putting together detailed plans for their application to build the housing estate on fields to the south of Chesterton.

There is currently no proposed date for submitting the application for the controversial scheme to Cotswold District Council, although it had originally been expected around Christmas.

However, when contacted by the Standard, JTP could not say how it envisages Cirencester's road network coping with the influx of new residents or what changes are planned. Charles Campion, a partner at JTP, said: “Since the masterplan is still at an early stage we don’t have all the answers, however as the masterplan develops and our overall understanding of the site continues to grow, we will share our knowledge and observations with the local community.”

He added that the company was very serious about addressing people’s concerns about traffic and infrastructure, and the work it is currently aims to find solutions for areas of concern.

Last month a community forum took place at Bingham House Gallery in Chesterton, where updates were given on the work carried out on the masterplan so far.

I-Transport, one of the groups charged with doing technical work on the development for JTP, gave a presentation, but many residents in attendance fiercely criticised the firm for not providing any proposed solutions to the expected traffic issues.

Residents believe there should be firm plans in place to make sure the development does not cause havoc on the town's roads.

After the meeting on October 22, Ben Thomas, a planning consultant from I-Transport, said it would be researching how similar sized developments have affected traffic in other towns, to better understand how JTP's housing scheme would impact Cirencester.

Another community forum is due to take place on November 26, with transport once again on the agenda. Fore more details on the Chesterton development, go to chestertoncirencester.co.uk For the latest planning news in the Cotswolds and north Wiltshire, see wiltsglosstandard.co.uk
