A MUCH-LOVED musical duo from Cirencester has warmed the heart of one hospital patient by volunteering to play a special and exclusive gig at her bedside.

Ethemia, known locally for standout performances at the Phoenix Festival, started playing intimate shows in the living rooms of people unable to attend one of their gigs in December last year. Whether one of their fans cannot attend due to illness, disability or other reasons, the duo come directly to their home and perform entirely for free.

Last Christmas Ethemia, made up of friends Berny and Michaela, faced their toughest gig at Cheltenham General's oncology ward. But, despite emotions running high, they decided to do more and earlier this month played for a very delighted Audrey at Cirencester Hospital.

Berny said the experience was wonderful, if emotional, and Audrey, who is in her eighties, felt touched to have the pair play for her.

Being busy in 2014, the pair have also recorded a song for this year's Children in Need, called Don't Let Them Down.

"We are quite chuffed," said Berny, "It has turned out really well. As far as we are concerned it is for children in need everyone and not just in the UK."

Ethemia will also be featuring on BBC Radio 2 as part of a show about music in healing.

"If anyone knows someone who will benefit, whether they are ill or disabled," added Berny, making it clear that the band is always happy to perform sofa sessions for those who would like one.
