A NEW chef is bringing new tastes and flavours to a popular Cirencester French restaurant.

Classically trained chef Jacqui Defreitas, 44, is the new head chef at Le Beaujolais, following the departure of well-known former chef Eric Lepine.

The chef has already added to the menu by revealing 16 new dishes and said she is settling in well.

Jacqui has worked all over the country. as well as in New Zealand, Australia and London. She has also worked in several of the town's restaurants, including The Fleece, Corinium Hotel and Relish.

She first met Le Beaujolais owner Kiean Glynn seven years ago when they both worked in Relish on Castle Street.

"It's been alright so far but it's not what I'm used to doing," admitted Jacqui, who has most recently come from working at The Mayfield Hotel in Crudwell. "I'm used to being second chef not head chef. I've had lots of positive feedback though."

Owner Kiean said the new chef's arrival has added another big plus to the team. He also has plans to announce new members of staff soon, as well as an apprentice to learn the restaurant business.

Jacqui went on to say she is still getting her head around her new surroundings, having only been at Le Beaujolais for less than two weeks, but hopes to start doing some speciality nights when she is more settled in.

She said: "I'll be taking Cirencester by storm."

Former head chef Eric gave his thanks to all the customers he enjoyed cooking for during the last four years.
