VEGETABLES, cakes and flowers were judged with a critical eye on the weekend at the annual Chedworth Village Show.

Organised by the committee of Chedworth and District Horticultural Society, the show was pronounced a great success by chairman Simon Colbeck.

"Thankfully the weather was kind to us," he said. "The judges were very impressed this year. The rooted vegetables were good and the floral displays were excellent."

The show is growing year by year and saw 450 entrants for the event, almost double the amount of entries received in 2013.

"It was a good turn-out too," added Mr Colbeck. "Everyone went away smiling. We had some people enter from outside the village, such as Cirencester, which we encourage. We welcome competition. It was a cracking good show."

The show, which took place on Saturday at the Village Hall and on the football field in Chedworth, saw excited visitors entering the competition with their prize vegetables, fruit, flowers, photos, poetry and more.

There was also a great deal of entertainment, games, stalls and children's activities which took place by the Village Hall, with jams and other preserves being sold inside.

This year Venetia Champniss arranged garden visits for 2014. Visitors came away with plants, cuttings and seeds after hearing a talk from gardening writer Mary Keen and exploring her own garden.
