LEWIS Lane Playgroup closes its doors for the final time today after providing care for children for 42 years.

Staff from the Cirencester Primary School based group thanked the community for their continued support of the playgroup, both in terms of their time and money.

Although this is the end of an era the current staff will stay on to run the Cherry Trees Nursery at Cirencester Primary School, opening in September 2014.

Business manager of the playgroup Kelly Motti said “It’s been an emotional day today.”

“We just want to say thank you to everyone involved with the group.”

Kelly explained that the playgroup had held a mock graduation ceremony for the children and that this afternoon they would sing a goodbye song, as they have every day, for the last time in the group’s history.

“There were a few of us that managed not to cry but we were all welling up.”

Kelly also added that funds from charitable activities that the group had left over would be used to buy play equipment to be given to other local charity playgroups.
