A MAN is in hospital after being seriously assaulted in Cirencester town centre over the Easter weekend.

The incident happened outside Sports Direct in Cricklade Street between 3am and 3.45am on Saturday April 19.

The 25-year-old victim, was punched and kicked by another man in the attack.

He suffered a serious head injury, internal injuries and a facial injury and was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he remains for treatment.

The attacker is believed to have been involved in another assault earlier on outside HSBC in Cricklade Street.

Anyone who witnessed either assault or has information should call Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident 58 of April 19.

A 20-year-old man from Stranraer was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the case and has been bailed to attend Cheltenham police station on April 24, pending further inquiries.
