HISTORY lovers are being urged to sign up to an appeal that could see a hoard of Roman treasure put on display in Cirencester.

The Tetbury Hoard was discovered in 2010 by a metal detectorist. The 1,500 coins date from around AD260-280 and were declared treasure before being sent to the British Museum for analysis.

Now they have now been donated to Cirencester’s Corinium Museum by the landowner. However, the museum needs around £15,000 to conserve the hoard and put it on display.

The museum hopes supporters will adopt a coin for £10. To get involved go to www.coriniummuseum.org or call 01285 655611.
