A COTSWOLD primary school has been included in a list, compiled by society magazine Tatler, of the 10 best state schools in the country.

The magazine, which is synonymous with the country’s upper classes, urged readers to be savvy with their money and send their child to one of the best state primaries in the UK, one of which is Meysey Hampton Primary School.

The school, located close to Cirencester, was described by the magazine as “deliciously old-fashioned”.

Kate Carden, headteacher at the primary school, said: “We were extremely surprised to hear that we had been mentioned in the Tatler, but pleased to read that parents are happy with the school.”

Parents of the current pupils were quoted in the magazine as saying: “You worry your child is only learning as fast as the slowest pupil, but here children are encouraged to move on as far as they can.”

Another parent said: “Unsurprisingly, given how good this school is, very few leave at eight for the county’s power preps.”

Mrs Carden, who has been at the school for nine years, said: “Like all the schools in the area we work hard to ensure that we promote high standards of learning and behaviour and we are deliciously old fashioned because we expect children to be well mannered and polite.”

The Tatler’s guide gives parents step-by-step instructions on how to obtain a first class education for their child for free.
